Lionel Ambassador Review

Saprano's Layout

Did you know that HBO’s acclaimed TV Series “The Soprano’s featured Lionel Trains? Well it did, and even a mobster (a fictitious Mobster named Bobby Bacala) had a layout in his house which was featured in several episodes. Also, featured in the series next to last episode was a layout which was placed on Long Island NY in Trainland, where Bobby succumbed to another mobsters bullets. The episode was named “The Blue Comet” after one of Lionel’s most famous trains.  Well to meet the demands of HBO and what was an excellent opportunity to showcase Lionel Trains to a national audience Lionel custom built the layouts for HBO.

Lights, Cameras, Action, It’s a Wrap. Now what was HBO to do with the two layouts?  The layouts remained in storage for about a year and then the HBO staff called a few NY area clubs and after a successful connection donated the layouts to the NJ Hirailers in Paterson NJ and the TMB Model Train Club in Farmingdale NY. The layout from the “Blue Comet” episode is now located in our club room and is the first thing our guests see when entering the club. The layout features Lionel Fastrack and many Lionel Accessories. Once in our possession, we connected several push button controls for our guests to activate and participate. The layout continues to be a fan favorite with kids to operate and with the parents who are amazed with and identify the TV series. We hope to have this layout on display for a long time and anyone wishing to see this beauty, please visit our web page for a list of open house dates.
